In stamping manufacturing, materials are typically supplied in coil form. Professional decoiler machines are essential for unwinding and feeding these coils into downstream equipment like levelers or feeders, enabling automated material handling.
Standard decoiler machines are common for this initial unwinding stage. When processing thinner, softer coils with minimal inherent resistance, feeding is typically smooth. However, challenges arise with thicker, harder metal sheets; here, adding pneumatic material arms to the decoiler becomes necessary to ensure controlled unwinding and prevent material spring-back. A more significant challenge emerges specifically with thick, high-hardness metal wire coils. In these cases, even decoilers equipped with standard hold-down arms struggle to adequately restrain the material. During unwinding, the lack of sufficient tension control causes the wire to spread erratically (“birdnesting”) and experience width-wise contraction and deformation. This severely disrupts subsequent leveling and feeding processes, ultimately compromising the precision and stability of the entire stamping operation – a critical issue, particularly in automotive suspension spring production where high-carbon steel wire coils are common.
Precisely to overcome these wire coil unwinding difficulties, we developed a specialized decoiler machine featuring an integrated guiding system. This system incorporates a roller-type guiding and tension-sensing mechanism. When the feed rate at the wire coil’s exit end becomes too slow, the system automatically senses this and either stops or slows down the drive rollers. This real-time adjustment brings the wire feed back to the correct speed, effectively preventing tangling. Conversely, if the wire feed becomes too tight or fast, the system senses this urgency and speeds up the drive rollers. This action alleviates the excessive tension, thereby preventing the wire from pulling tight and causing internal contraction and deformation. By maintaining the wire feed state within a minimal margin of error, this system dramatically enhances processing accuracy – essential for meeting the stringent demands of high-precision components like suspension springs. It fundamentally solves the problem of unwinding thick, hard wire coils, simultaneously boosting unwinding efficiency and quality for this demanding application.
