In automotive manufacturing, the production of chassis components often requires handling large, heavy steel coils before they enter the stamping press. A hydraulic decoiler is the ideal solution for this stage, providing efficient, safe, and stable coil uncoiling to ensure uninterrupted stamping operations.

The hydraulic decoiler is primarily designed for unwinding heavy-duty coils, replacing the hand-crank expansion mechanism of standard decoilers with a hydraulic tensioning system. This upgrade greatly reduces labor intensity, shortens coil loading time, and enhances safety during material handling.

Most hydraulic decoilers on the market use a four-link expansion mechanism for the drum, driven by a rotary hydraulic cylinder and its matching joint. However, this structure is complex, costly to manufacture, and non-standardized, resulting in higher production costs. The large rotational inertia of the rotary hydraulic cylinder also increases power consumption during recoiling and makes operation less convenient. In addition, the design often leads to multiple potential leakage points, raising long-term maintenance costs.

To address these issues, our hydraulic decoiler has been upgraded and improved. The new design replaces the rotary hydraulic cylinder and joint with a hydraulic cylinder and axial displacement coupling. This reduces manufacturing difficulty, improves assembly efficiency, and ensures better machine stability. During operation, the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder does not rotate with the hollow shaft, reducing rotational inertia, lowering power consumption, and eliminating oil leakage problems.

The axial displacement coupling is split into two halves, connected with bolts and nuts. It consists of a rotating shaft connector, thrust bearing, round nut, spacer, annular nut, and a non-rotating shaft connector. The thrust bearing is fixed at one end of the pull rod with a nut and positioned inside the rotating shaft connector. The non-rotating connector links directly to the piston rod. This special coupling allows the two connected shafts to move axially under hydraulic force while enabling one shaft to rotate independently.

In operation, hydraulic pressure from the power station, controlled by an electromagnetic directional valve, drives the piston rod and pull rod to move axially. This motion activates the four-link mechanism, adjusting the drum diameter to clamp or release the coil. Whether rotating under the coil’s own pull or powered by a motor, the thrust bearing ensures the piston rod remains stationary, improving efficiency and stability.

When applied to automotive chassis component stamping lines, this hydraulic decoiler significantly streamlines coil handling. Heavy-gauge steel required for chassis frames, suspension parts, and cross-members can be loaded, expanded, and fed to the press line with minimal manual intervention, reducing downtime and ensuring consistent material flow. The result is faster production cycles, improved safety, and lower operating costs—critical advantages in today’s competitive automotive market.

By integrating this advanced hydraulic decoiler into your automotive stamping line, you gain not only a reliable coil unwinding solution but also a direct boost to overall production efficiency.
