Through  inspections and analysis in customer site, we found that material scratches are basically due to the following three reasons:

  1. The clamping force is too large. When conveying some very thin or low-strength materials (such as when feedingthin coil material;copper material, aluminum material), , due to the excessive clamping force of the material, after each loosening and clamping and feeding,will produce excessive pressure on the material, forming indentation;
  2. The problem of mixing foreign objects. For example, if foreign matter (material scraps, oxide scale, residue, etc.) is adhered to the feeder roller, when the roller rotates once, the shape of the foreign matter will be copied to the material, forming an intermittent pitting effect;
  3. The issue of material transitionfrom punch feeder to press. If the above two problems are eliminated, the root cause of the scratches will not be the feeder. Please carefully observe the operation of the material belt from the feeder exit to the mold or even the finished product, and see if there is any part of the material in contact with the material during the stamping process, and then scratch the material.


So what is the ultimate solution to the problem of material scratching?

I believe that after the above analysis, you will have a basic idea, but for different types of feeders, we will adopt different solutions, as explained below.

  1. When using the automatic air feeder, the solution to material scratches:

1. The material is scratched by foreign objects. Stop the machine and check whether there is material debris or foreign matter on the fixed splint and moving splint of the automatic air feeder. If so, clean it up to solve it.

2. The material itself is too thin, causing scratches on the material (there are many cases when conveying copper and aluminum materials). In this case, it is necessary to cover the feeding rack, fixed splint, and movable splint of the air automatic feeder.

  1. The solution to material scratches when using the mechanical high speed roller feeder:

1. The material thickness is adjusted incorrectly, and the pressing force of the material pressing spring is too large, which will deform the material and cause scratches. Stop and check whether the material thickness of the roller feeder is adjusted according to the actual material thickness, and reduce the pressing force of the pressing spring.

2. There are foreign objects on the feeding roller. It can be solved by wiping and cleaning the roller.

C . The solution to material scratches when using NC CNC feeder:

1. The cylinder pressure is too high, causing material crushing. The NC CNC feeder needs to adjust the pressure of the cylinder according to the material thickness (adjusted by the pressure adjustment handle of the three-point combination). When the material thickness is too thin, the cylinder pressure of the three-point combination should be appropriately reduced.

2. There are foreign objects on the feeding roller. It can be solved by wiping and cleaning the roller.
