In the stamping manufacturing industry, presses often utilize progressive dies for forming thin sheet metal. These progressive dies typically feature positioning holes. To ensure high precision in blanking or forming, each station demands extremely accurate material feeding. Significant feeding deviations can damage these positioning holes with locating pins, potentially ruining the entire die, causing substantial production losses, and compromising overall product quality. Consequently, the demand for feeding equipment with superior accuracy and stability, like servo feeders, has become paramount.

Traditionally, the gap adjustment between the upper and lower feed rollers in servo feeders relied on screws. While structurally simple, this method struggles to maintain consistent gap size at both roller ends. This is particularly problematic when processing thicker materials (exceeding 3.0mm), or when the raw material strip has surface irregularities or slight thickness inconsistencies along its edges. These minor variations cause subtle changes in the roller gap. Since adjustment is manual via screws, these changes often go unnoticed and accumulate. This accumulated inconsistency leads to material strip deviation (“running off”), impacting feeding accuracy. The result is frequent production stoppages for adjustments and potential issues like material tangling or jamming, severely hindering automated stamping efficiency.

To address the challenges of feeding thick plate materials, we have specifically designed and manufactured a Heavy-Gauge Servo Feeder. This model replaces the traditional screw-based pressure mechanism with air cylinder pressing. Our Heavy-Gauge Servo Feeder automatically adjusts the gap between the upper and lower feed rollers based on the varying thickness of the incoming material strip, significantly reducing manual labor. Crucially, as both control cylinders share the same air source, pressure consistency at both roller ends is exceptionally high. Furthermore, the pneumatic cylinders automatically compensate for minute gap variations caused by surface irregularities or slight edge thickness differences in the material strip. This effectively prevents feeding deviations, mis-feeds, and tangling/jamming phenomena. Ultimately, this ensures the fundamental stability and efficiency of the stamping production line.

Application Focus: Building & Construction – Roof Purlin Punching

This precision and stability are critical in manufacturing essential building components like roof purlins. Purlins, the horizontal structural members supporting roof decks, are typically produced from thicker steel strips (commonly 3.0mm to 8.0mm). Their production involves high-tonnage presses using progressive dies to punch mounting holes, create bends, and form specific profiles along their entire length. Any inconsistency in feeding accuracy during this continuous punching process can lead to:

  1. Misaligned Holes: Affecting structural integrity and on-site assembly speed.

  2. Profile Inconsistencies: Compromising load-bearing capacity and fit.

  3. Increased Scrap & Downtime: Due to jams or out-of-spec parts.

Our Heavy-Gauge Servo Feeder, with its automatic, synchronized cylinder-based gap control, is engineered to handle these demanding thick-gauge steel purlin production lines. It ensures the consistent, high-precision feeding required to maintain dimensional accuracy across long purlin runs, maximize press uptime, and guarantee the structural quality vital for building safety and efficiency.
