Fixed-pitch feeding for connector pin dies
A copper pin progressive die feeder must keep short feed pitch, pilot timing and strip support stable while the press runs repeated connector pin strokes. For press-fit pins, copper terminals and small connector components, the buyer is not only asking for a feeder. The real question is whether the feeding method can match the die’s pilot system and production rhythm.
Executive Summary:
- Press-fit pin stamping is usually a short-pitch, high-volume progressive die application.
- A mechanically synchronized roller feeder can support high-speed fixed-pitch production when the material and die are suitable.
- Pilot release timing is critical because the feeder performs primary registration and the die pilots perform final registration.
- The RFQ should include pin strip material, pitch, press speed, pilot hole layout, die release method and downstream strip handling.

Why are copper pin progressive dies sensitive to feeding?
Copper pins and connector terminals are small, repeated features. A small feed error can affect hole position, pin shape, plating quality or downstream insertion fit. In progressive die stamping, the feeder advances the strip to the next station, but the pilot pins inside the die perform the final correction.
If the feeder, press angle and die release timing are not matched, the pilot pins may be forced to correct too much error. That can increase pilot wear, create strip stress, or make the pin geometry inconsistent over long runs.
Where does a roller feeder fit press-fit connector pin stamping?
A press-fit terminal stamping roller feeder is most useful when the job is fixed-pitch, short-feed and high-volume. Henli’s high-speed mechanical roller feeder is driven from the press output shaft through an eccentric disk and connecting rod, so the feed motion follows the press cycle mechanically.
This mechanical synchronization is different from a servo command. For suitable short-pitch applications, it can reduce response lag and keep the feed rhythm tied to the press stroke. The application still needs a correct material range, feed length, press interface and die release setup. Strip width, feed pitch and thickness limits for each model are listed on our roller feeder for progressive dies page.
The same press-synchronized roller feeding is used to stamp copper solid pins, brass pins, connectors and electronic terminals from copper strip. The short clip below shows a high-speed mechanical roller feeder feeding copper strip for solid pins in a stamping workshop.
What must be checked before choosing the feeder?
Start with the strip. Copper and copper alloy strip can be soft, plated or narrow, so roller pressure and surface contact matter. Then check the die. The pilot hole layout, pilot entry angle and release mechanism determine when the feeder should let the strip float for final registration.
Also check upstream and downstream handling. A connector terminal line may combine coil payoff, high-speed feeding, progressive stamping, scrap handling and strip recoiling. If recoiling tension or coil drag changes the strip load, the feeder may receive unstable material even when the press settings are correct.
How should release timing be described in the RFQ?
Release timing is the transfer from feeder registration to pilot registration. During setup, the feeder should release the strip as the pilot pins enter the pilot holes (about one-third of the way in), not so late that the pilots drag against clamped material and not so early that the strip loses control before piloting.
For a copper pin progressive die feeder quote, describe how the die releases the material, whether the press uses a release screw or cam contact, and where the feeder is mounted relative to the die entry. If there is existing pitch drift, include which station shows the error and whether it changes with speed.
Copper pin feeder data buyers should prepare
The quote should include material width, thickness, grade, plating condition, feed pitch, target press speed, press output shaft direction, die height, pilot hole layout, release timing method, acceptable mark level, coil weight and whether the strip is rewound after stamping.
If the product is a press-fit connector pin, also include the critical dimensional requirement after stamping and whether the pin will be inserted, plated, assembled or inspected downstream. This helps separate a general roller feeder request from a real connector pin stamping line requirement.
FAQ about copper pin progressive die feeder
What is a copper pin progressive die feeder?
It is a feeder setup for coil-fed progressive die stamping of copper pins or connector terminals, where short pitch, pilot release timing and strip handling must stay stable at production speed.
Why use a roller feeder for press-fit pin stamping?
A roller feeder can be suitable for fixed-pitch, high-volume pin stamping when the material, feed length, press interface and die release timing match the mechanical feeding method.
What data is needed before quoting a press-fit terminal stamping feeder?
Send material width, thickness, grade, plating condition, feed pitch, press speed, die pilot layout, release mechanism, coil data and downstream strip handling requirements.
