1. Understanding Machine Configuration and Layout

Before delving into the technical aspects, it is crucial to have a clear understanding of your stamping production line’s machine configuration and layout. This assessment will determine whether a passive or a powered decoiler is the best fit for your operations. Typically, priority is given to powered decoilers, especially when ample space is available, and the production line demands substantial material uncoiling.

2. Material Specifications

To proceed with the selection process, you must gather detailed information about the material to be used. The key specifications to consider are:

a) Material Thickness

The material’s thickness plays a crucial role in determining the appropriate decoiler. For materials with a thickness exceeding 2mm, it is advisable to add a pneumatic pressure arm to the decoiler. This arm prevents strip scattering and provides rotational force during the uncoiling process.

b) Coil Inner and Outer Diameters

Standard decoiler models are designed for a material inner diameter of 508mm and a coil outer diameter of 1200mm. If non-standard coils are used, customization may be necessary. Ensure that the material reel’s expansion mandrel and its size align with the machine’s height and the actual inner and outer diameters of the coils being used.

c) Coil Weight

Decoilers have standard load capacities, but customizations are required for coils exceeding the standard weight. For materials exceeding 2T, it is recommended to use hydraulic expansion instead of manual expansion (as manual tightening is difficult for materials above 2T). For loads exceeding 5T, a hydraulic material loading trolley is advised to facilitate loading.

d) Surface Conductivity and Finish Requirements

Depending on the material’s surface conductivity, you may need to change the coil’s induction method. Standard decoilers use a 12V induction power supply for control. If the material surface is non-conductive, a micro switch or photoelectric switch should be used for induction control. Moreover, if a high emphasis is placed on material surface smoothness, adding a variable frequency drive (VFD) is recommended.
