Supplier evaluation and machine selection
A country name or a factory-price promise does not prove that an uncoiler fits your coil. Compare the documented machine scope, load path, mandrel, drive, restraint, controls and after-sales evidence against the complete coil and line data.

Define the Machine Before Comparing Suppliers
Decoiler and uncoiler are functional synonyms in most buyer searches: both hold a coil and release strip into the next process. Regional vocabulary varies, but the engineering decision remains the same. A recoiler belongs to the same coil-handling cluster yet performs the reverse task—collecting processed strip back into a coil.
Separate decoiler
Selected when payoff, straightening and feeding remain separate machines. Confirm buffer space and interfaces.
Decoiler-straightener
Combines payoff and leveling. It still requires a verified downstream feeding and control arrangement.
Compact feeder line
A 3-in-1 configuration integrates decoiling, straightening and servo feeding; press interface data becomes essential.
Recoiling stage
A recoiler is relevant after slitting, stamping or processing. Do not size it as if it were the payoff machine.
Send a Complete Coil and Production Envelope
| Required data | Why it matters | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum coil mass, width, I.D. and O.D. | Defines the load path, mandrel geometry, support and loading arrangement. | Model table, general arrangement drawing and allowable coil envelope. |
| Material grade, yield strength and thickness range | Affects spring-back, restraint, threading, drive and downstream straightening. | Written material range and any application-specific limitations. |
| Line speed, pitch and stop/start cycle | Determines buffer demand and control response; nameplate speed alone is insufficient. | Control concept, loop window and interface description. |
| Site, foundation, power and loading method | Changes installation, coil-car travel, guarding and service access. | Foundation/load drawing, utility list and installation responsibility matrix. |
Audit Capacity Claims and Boundaries
A supplier should distinguish a standard model table from custom manufacturing capability. HENLI’s standard hydraulic-decoiler rows cover 5, 7, 10 and 15 tons up to the published model widths, and HENLI can engineer and manufacture custom hydraulic uncoilers up to 20 tons and 1800 mm wide. The standard table is a selection reference, not a manufacturing capability ceiling; the custom machine structure is configured from the complete coil envelope, load path, support, drive, foundation and line data.
Compare the Commercial Scope Line by Line
1. Base machine
Frame, mandrel, expansion method, drive, brake, controls and included guards.
2. Coil handling
Loading car, support arm, pressing/retaining devices, travel and operator procedure.
3. Line integration
Sensor type, buffer logic, emergency-stop chain and responsibility for commissioning.
4. Delivery and support
Inspection protocol, manuals, spares, warranty boundary, remote support and site service.
“Factory price” is only meaningful after the buying scope is normalized. A lower quote may omit the loading car, support, guarding, electrical interface, installation or acceptance testing included by another supplier.
Verify the Factory and Acceptance Evidence
Before order
Review business identity, relevant builds, engineering drawings, component list and written exclusions.
Before shipment
Agree on visual, dimensional, functional and safety-related checks using the approved scope and available test coil.
At installation
Confirm foundation, alignment, utilities, guarding, loading and loop settings before production trials.
At handover
Record settings, training, spare parts, manuals, punch-list items and acceptance responsibility.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are decoiler and uncoiler the same machine?
Usually yes in sourcing searches. Both terms describe coil payoff. The exact configuration—manual, motorized, hydraulic, horizontal, double-head or integrated—must still be defined.
Is a China uncoiler automatically cheaper?
No universal conclusion is possible. Compare equivalent technical scope, testing, delivery terms, spares and service. Price without normalized scope is not a reliable comparison.
Can a 20-ton hydraulic uncoiler be supplied?
Yes. HENLI can engineer and manufacture custom hydraulic uncoilers up to 20 tons and 1800 mm wide. The published 5–15 ton rows are standard model references; the final 20-ton machine is configured from the customer’s actual coil and line data.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send coil mass, width, I.D., O.D., grade, yield strength, thickness, line speed, downstream equipment, layout, power, loading method and required options.

Request a Scope-Matched Uncoiler Quotation
Send the full coil and production envelope. HENLI can identify the suitable product route, list what is standard versus custom, and return the technical questions that must be closed before approval.
