Servo-driven decoiler with distance/diameter feedback hub
Distance feedback can support loop or estimated-diameter control only when sensor geometry, scaling, algorithm, command limits and fault response are documented and tested.
Scope and Evidence Status
This URL is written as a bounded technical decision page for servo-decoiler distance feedback on motor-lamination lines. It does not claim a confidential customer result, certified finished product or universal machine capability. Any future case-study statement needs the records listed below.
Application-Specific Process Route
The labeled route below is a conceptual engineering diagram—not a photograph of a delivered project. It makes the current page intent visible without presenting generic equipment images as application proof.
Inputs to Freeze Before Selection
- Sensor type, mounting drawing, range and target surface
- Reference distances for full/empty coil or loop bands
- Controller scaling, filtering, update rate and deadband
- Drive command, acceleration/deceleration and brake behavior
- Diameter-estimate equation if used and geometry assumptions
- Signal-loss, blocked-sensor, overrun and restart proof tests

Engineering Decision and Verification Table
| Decision gate | How to verify | Required record |
|---|---|---|
| Calibration | Compare displayed value with physical distance | Calibration record |
| Algorithm response | Move through operating range at low speed | Trend of measurement and command |
| Coil/loop behavior | Observe full and near-empty conditions | Trial trace |
| Fault state | Interrupt target, signal and feedback plausibility | Stop/reset result |
Page-Specific Method
Work through the four gates below with the production drawing, material and real machine interface. Each gate produces a record that can be independently reviewed instead of relying on a generic industry claim.
Calibration
Compare displayed value with physical distance Record: Calibration record
Algorithm response
Move through operating range at low speed Record: Trend of measurement and command
Coil/loop behavior
Observe full and near-empty conditions Record: Trial trace
Fault state
Interrupt target, signal and feedback plausibility Record: Stop/reset result
Failure Modes, Stop Conditions and Boundaries
- Thickness mislabel: A distance-to-surface sensor does not measure strip thickness
- Geometry error: Do not infer diameter without a documented reference model
- Runaway command: Limit drive output and stop on implausible feedback
Acceptance Record for This Page
Freeze the released drawing and material revision, machine configuration, interface list, recipe, sample plan and measuring method. Record exceptions and the safe restart route. A publishable result must identify the tested configuration; otherwise retain this page as an engineering guide.
