Thick-coil handling and leveling

SHL 2-in-1 Decoiler Leveler

Why select SHL?

Bring Thick-Coil Preparation into One Layout

Thicker coil heads need control during loading, restraint and threading. SHL combines decoiling and leveling with entry preparation so these operations can be arranged together beside the downstream line.

01 · Support + UnwindThe mandrel supports the coil and the press arm helps restrain its outer wraps.
02 · Prepare the HeadEntry debending reduces the leading-end curve before roller entry.
03 · Level the StripThe adjusted roller head reduces coil set through the strip path.
04 · Buffer + FeedAn outlet loop supplies a separate NC feeder and stamping press.

Allow Access Along the Material Path

Arrange the machine with room for coil loading, moving entry equipment, roller adjustment and maintenance. Confirm the full line footprint with the outlet buffer and feeder.

Entry debending and leveling perform different jobs. Debending prepares the leading coil end for threading. The leveling head then works on the strip passing through the machine.

SHL-A and SHL-B selection

Match the Series to the Actual Material

Choose the thickness range, then check the width allowed at that thickness. Material strength, coil dimensions and coil weight are all part of the final model selection.

SHL-A

0.5–4.5 mm Material

Use the A-series capacity table for medium-thick strip. Nominal width alone does not establish the capacity at maximum thickness.

SHL-B

0.6–6.0 mm Material

Use the reinforced B-series table for the required thick-strip combination. Review higher-strength materials separately from the reference capacity.

Read width and thickness together. SHL-800A is listed for 450 mm width at 4.5 mm thickness. SHL-800B is listed for 320 mm width at 6.0 mm thickness. Higher-strength material needs a separate capacity review.

SHL-700A and SHL-700B are available within the model range; their width-thickness capacities are confirmed for the requested material. Coil weight and dimensions, incoming shape and the required leveling result are checked before final selection.

Restraint, grip and loading

Plan the Coil Handling Around the Job

Coil restraint, mandrel expansion and loading equipment each serve a different purpose. Select them together with coil weight, dimensions, spring-back and the available handling space.

Setup routine

Inspect the Strip and Record Settings

Check guidance and material contact surfaces, make controlled setting changes and inspect the result. Record useful settings with the material grade, width and thickness for repeat work.

Service access

Plan for Cleaning and Inspection

Keep access to the head, drive and controls clear. Stop and isolate the machine before accessing moving components, and follow the maintenance instructions supplied for the actual build.

Press-line planning

Coordinate Loading, Leveling and Feeding

Plan the loading method, material direction, operator position and outlet-loop space together. A separate NC servo feeder normally controls the feed pitch and coordinates delivery to the press.

Provide feed pitch and press speed so average strip demand, leveling supply speed and buffer requirements can be reviewed as one line.

Application selection

Start with the Material and Part Requirements

SHL is evaluated for thicker coil-fed components where strip preparation, coil handling and threading need to be considered together. Select from material data and the required result.

Automotive components

Seat Tracks and Structural Brackets

Review actual grade and yield strength for seat mechanisms, supports and brackets. High-strength automotive material needs an application-specific capacity assessment.

Heavy hardware

Hinges and Mounting Parts

Check the width-thickness combination for heavier hinges, shelving brackets and rigid fittings, together with the flatness needed by the forming process.

Mechanical parts

Plates and Formed Components

Prepare coil strip for components where incoming shape influences downstream forming or assembly. Confirm the finished-material requirement with representative samples.

Material grade matters. Hot-rolled, cold-rolled, pickled, stainless and high-strength strip can have very different leveling loads. The reference tables do not establish the capacity of every grade at the same width and thickness.

Material and handling review

Confirm Your SHL-A or SHL-B Configuration

Send the coil data and press-line requirements. HENLI can review the material capacity, expansion method, entry support and loading arrangement together.

FAQ

SHL Selection and Configuration Questions

What is the difference between SHL-A and SHL-B?
SHL-A is listed for 0.5–4.5 mm material. The reinforced SHL-B range is listed for 0.6–6.0 mm. Both cover nominal model widths from 200 to 800 mm, but the permitted strip width at each thickness must be checked in the applicable capacity table.
Can SHL-800B level 800 mm wide strip at 6.0 mm thickness?
The published reference lists 320 mm maximum strip width at 6.0 mm thickness for SHL-800B. The 800 mm width applies at thinner table points. These figures are based on material yield strength up to 235 N/mm²; actual material strength and incoming coil condition must be reviewed.
Why does SHL use an entry debending device?
The leading end of a thick coil can retain a strong curve that makes threading difficult. Entry debending helps prepare that leading end and guide it toward the leveling rollers. Final strip leveling is performed by the roller head after entry preparation.
Which models include hydraulic expansion?
For SHL-200 through SHL-500, manual expansion is standard and hydraulic expansion is optional. Hydraulic expansion is standard on SHL-600, SHL-700 and SHL-800. Confirm the ordered arrangement against coil dimensions and weight.
Does a hydraulic loading car come with every SHL?
A hydraulic coil loading car is an option to review with the handling plan. It supports positioning the coil for loading onto the mandrel. Coil weight, diameters, loading height, access and site handling equipment determine the appropriate arrangement.
Can the capacity tables be used for high-strength steel?
The published width-thickness capacities use yield strength no greater than 235 N/mm². High-strength grades, spring steel and other harder materials need a separate assessment using actual grade, strength, thickness, width and required flatness.
How should I select a 700 mm model or thin material for SHL-B?
SHL-700A and SHL-700B are included in the main model range, but their width-thickness capacities need confirmation for the actual material. For SHL-B material from 0.6 mm to below 1.0 mm, confirm the required working width with HENLI before selecting the machine.
Does SHL include NC servo feeding?
The integrated functions are decoiling and leveling. A stamping line normally uses an outlet buffer and a separate NC servo feeder for feed-length control and press coordination. The SHL supply speed and loop layout should be matched to that feeder.
What should I provide for an SHL quotation?
Send material grade and yield strength, thickness and width ranges, coil weight and inside/outside diameters, target flatness and surface requirements, feed pitch and press speed, loading method, available space and site power. Include hydraulic expansion or loading-car requirements.
