Heavy-duty double-head project route
Hydraulic Double Head Decoiler for Heavy Steel Coil Changeover
HENLI configures hydraulic double head decoilers for steel coil and steel strip lines that need two loading positions, heavy-coil handling and faster changeover. This is the commercial owner for hydraulic or heavy-duty double-head enquiries; frame, spindle, expansion, drive, support and loading are engineered from project data.
Terminology and boundary
What โHydraulic Double Head Decoilerโ Means
Double head, two-head, dual-spindle and double-spindle describe two coil positions. โHydraulicโ normally describes mandrel expansion and/or a configured loading or support function; it does not by itself define payoff drive, speed control, braking or downstream synchronization.
Motorized route
Use approved powered payoff and loop control when the line needs active unwinding.
Pull-off route
Consider only when the downstream machine can pull the strip and the brake/control design fits coil inertia.
Hydraulic handling
Hydraulic expanding mandrels, supports and loading aids are selected from I.D./O.D., mass, width, center height and site handling.
Standard and custom
Capacity Is Defined Per Side and for the Complete Assembly
The standard MTD table and HENLI's confirmed custom manufacturing capability are different layers. A standard table is a reference, not the ceiling of non-standard engineering capability.
| Layer | Published/confirmed route | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Regular MTD reference | 500 kg ร2, 800 kg ร2 and 1200 kg ร2 model routes | Use the Double Head owner for current standard tables. |
| Custom heavy-duty manufacturing | Single-side projects up to 10T and double-side total up to 20T | Requires engineered frame, spindle, bearings, support, locking, loading, floor/foundation and acceptance. |
| Speed and response | Project-specific | Confirm inertia, drive/brake, buffer, sensors, downstream cycle and tests; capacity does not prove speed. |
Engineering checklist
Heavy Double-Head Design Requires More Than Hydraulic Expansion
Frame and spindle
- Per-side and combined load cases
- Mandrel, shaft, bearings and support
- Rotation and positive positioning
Loading and restraint
- Crane, forklift or coil car
- Pressing/retaining arm as required
- Idle-side loading clearance
Controls and interfaces
- Motorized or pull-off logic
- Loop sensing, braking and stops
- Straightener, feeder and press interlocks
Changeover route
Offline Coil Preparation Can Reduce Coil-Change Downtime
When the idle side can be prepared while the active side runs, the double-head arrangement supports a zero-downtime coil-changeover sequence and can reduce coil-change downtime by up to 90% in a confirmed line configuration. This applies to the coil-change stepโnot total production downtimeโand depends on loading, positioning, strip joining/threading and safety.
Prepare
Load, center, expand and restrain the next approved coil on the idle side.
Stop and secure
Follow the verified stop, isolation, end-of-coil and positioning sequence.
Change and restart
Select the prepared side, complete approved threading/joining and restart after line checks.

FAQ
Heavy-Duty Hydraulic Double Head Decoiler Questions
Can HENLI build 10T on each side?
Yes. HENLI has confirmed custom manufacturing capability up to 10T per side and 20T total, subject to engineered coil envelope, structure, loading, floor/foundation and acceptance scope.
Does hydraulic expansion mean motorized payoff?
No. Hydraulic expansion grips/releases the coil I.D.; a separate drive decision determines motorized payoff.
Can it process stainless steel or aluminum?
Potentially, after strength, surface sensitivity, thickness-width combination, coil mass, edge condition and downstream process are confirmed.
Is zero-downtime changeover automatic on every line?
No. It is a confirmed capability when offline loading and the complete switching/threading sequence are designed and verified.
Define the Load Per Side Before Quotation
Send both coil positions, the active/idle loading condition and complete line cycle.
